Introduction to Bladesmithing
Step into the forge and learn the fundamentals of bladesmithing in this hands-on, intermediate-level class. You’ll work with hot steel and traditional blacksmithing techniques to shape, forge, and refine your own functional blade under the guidance of an experienced bladesmith.
This is a 5-hour class for a reason. Bladesmithing requires considerably more control, precision, and attention to detail than basic forging. Creating a functional blade isn’t something that can be rushed. From forging the steel to establishing the shape, controlling the thickness, refining the edge, and preparing the blade for the next stages, every step requires patience and accuracy.
Come Prepared for the Heat
Working around a forge is HOT! Temperatures around the forging area can easily exceed 100°F, especially during the summer months. You should expect to sweat and plan accordingly.
Please bring plenty of water or another hydrating drink and stay hydrated throughout the class. Take breaks…
